Learning new things

Labyrinths continue to play a significant role in my practice.

The labyrinth has been winding away. Always bringing new opportunities. Always a moment, a breath, a meditation in the midst of the chaos of daily life. As life sped up I visited the labyrinth less often. I reached out less.

Somehow in the midst of it all I stopped posting on this blog and on social media altogether. I checked out of the digital landscape for almost a year.

Sometimes when one mode of communication doesn’t feel right another comes along. During this time, for a year and a half really, the opportunity to teach art classes at a memory care facility appeared. Through teaching there I have developed a different perspective about making art and communicating through art. My teaching has evolved as my experience has shifted. While experiencing beauty and emotion through art is still one reason I create, I do not think they are necessarily the most impactful aspects of the creative process throughout life. It seems to me that humans express themselves through having choices and being able to be heard. The choices don’t have to be significant to others. Simply to own a decision is empowering. So whether the choice is related to color, texture, material or expression the creative article is important. The creative article is valuable.

As it turns out, the labyrinth is bringing me back where I started - to digital sharing. So you can expect to see more posts here and on my social media - Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Blue Sky.

Breathe deep.
